Worship Start Time: 10:30am
Theme: Journey to Jerusalem - Bicycle Sunday
Come to Scarboro as we worship together every Sunday. We will have the coffee on at 10, so come early and catch up with your community.
Ride your bike over to Scarboro United and take advantage of a professional spring tune-up, available by donation. Even if you can't ride that day, bring your bikes along and take part in the blessing of the bicycles. If biking's not you thing, carpool, walk, rollerblade, or take transit. See if you can get to church in a way that reduces your carbon footprint!
This Easter season, we are logging distance walked, steps counted, (kilometers cycled) minutes of physical activity - and also spiritual activity (prayer, scripture verses, meditation), and participation in & service to our church community. Find the tear off slip on the back of the ScarboroNews to log your total 'kilometers' as we strive to cover the distance from Calgary to Jerusalem between now and Pentecost - June 9th!
So far, we have passed through Spain and arrived on sunny Sardinia. There will be one week after this Sunday to cover the remaining distance to Jerusalem - make sure you get your kilometers in! That's another reason to ride your bike to church on June 2nd and pump up your tally!
Each Sunday we will pause to pray for the cities, towns, and countries that we pass through: This week, we pray for understanding and respect between the Spanish government and the people of Catalonia. We pray for the four lower-house MPs (Josep Rull, Oriol Junqueras, Jordi Sànchez, Jordi Turull) and senator Raül Romeva who were permitted to take their seats for the opening session of parliament, despite having been jailed, along with other leaders of Catalonia’s failed 2017 bid for independence. May the people of Spain and Catalonia find a peaceful way forward.
After worship, head down to the Marilyn Perkins - Memorial Hall for a cup of tea or coffee and good conversation. See you there!
This Sunday is the United Church of Canada's first National Affirming Sunday
Check out our newly installed rainbow banners outside the Scarboro Ave and 15th Ave entrances. We have also added a rainbow table cover to the new Welcome Table on the middle level. Everyone is welcome at Scarboro United Church, whoever you are, however you identify and whomever you love.
