Read the Scarboro 2012 Stewardship request.

One Time Gifts

To make a one time gift, you can write a cheque made out to “Scarboro United Church” or donate online through Canada Helps.

Donate to Scarboro through of the purchase of Gift Cards

Scarboro participates in a gift card fundraising program called FundScrip. The gift cards themselves come from some of Canada’s largest retailers. They are sold at face value, but earn rebates ranging from 2%- 15% of the purchase price of the cards, that go directly to the church!

Monthly Giving

Monthly giving is a great way to express your commitment to the ongoing ministries at Scarboro United. Your gift keeps coming even when you are away, which makes it a lot easier for Scarboro United to plan the programs that change lives, enrich our community, develop leaders and offer spiritual nurture. You can change the amount or cancel at any time. A receipt is issued at the end of the year.

“Dinghy? Icebreaker?”

Imagine your congregation as a boat. Not one that hugs the shores or seeks the harbours, but rather a boat that only comes in when it needs supplies in order to go out again.

Imagine your congregation as the place where risks are taken, and nobody is surprised.

Imagine that your congregation commits itself all over again this year to join Jesus in whatever he is already doing and wherever he is doing it. This might require some new insight.

This is no surprise to us, because the Bible tells us that the first problem for the disciples after the resurrection was to recognize Christ. He came in unexpected places. They did not recognize him easily.

So we need to listen … and look … with care.

Imagine that your congregation is not discouraged by this task at all. After all, your church is a “farm team” for creativity.

How can you help your congregation be an effective farm team to launch your mission boat?

One help is prayer. Pray for your congregation to weigh anchor and get under way in bold outreach.

Pray that any seasickness from the roll and pitch of mission may be short-lived.

Another effective, concrete help is money. A gift of securities [shares or mutual funds] is a wonderful way to support your congregation as it learns to shoot the rapids, go where Jesus is and do what Jesus does. That’s our job, really: to join Jesus in what he is already doing.

Gifting securities can be a tax-smart choice for you, too. You receive a charitable donation tax receipt for the full amount of the securities, pay no income tax on any capital gain, and your church treasurer receives the cheque. How will your gift specifically support your mission boat? You decide.

And The United Church of Canada Foundation can help you. It simplifies the process and ensures regulatory compliance.

To be sure, your mission boat may only start out as a dinghy. But with the right kind of help your dinghy can turn into an ice breaker, bringing hope wherever it goes.
