Scarboro Café – February 19th

SCARBORO CAFÉ: A place where we explore the creative side of popular culture in a relaxed coffee house atmosphere. Join us from 6:30 to 8 pm in the gym.

Host, Lee Spice, and guest speaker, Jim Simpson, will be discussing the many ways that family has shaped Jim’s life and what it means to him.  Jim has experienced family in many different ways  -  some expected and others not.

Special guest musicians:  Doug Baker and Blaine Hrabi.  Twisted Roots is Doug Baker on vocal, guitar and bass, and Blaine Hrabi on vocal, guitar, mandolin, accordion and harmonica. Doug and Blaine teamed up at an open mic session in late 2009 and realized their vocal and instrumental talents blended so well they have been playing and performing together since. They enjoy taking roots music and twisting the arrangements around to come up with unique yet familiar songs. Their music draws from Celtic, folk and country traditions to create a repertoire that makes audiences laugh, feel and hopefully sing along.

Bring your curiosity.  Bring an instrument.  Bring two friends.

Come on out for good coffee, good company, good stories and good songs.

Scarboro Café – February 5th

SCARBORO CAFÉ: A place where we explore the creative side of popular culture in a relaxed coffee house atmosphere. Join us from 6:30 to 8 pm in the gym.

Our guest tonight is The Rev. Piotr (Peter) Strzelecki V.D.M.

Piotr was born and raised in southern Poland in Bielsko-Biala. He journeyed toward priesthood in the Roman-Catholic Church. Studied in the monastic setting in Poland (Missionaries of the Holy Family) and at St. Paul University in Ottawa. After joining the United Church he worked as a Christian Development Minister with the Seaway Valley Presbytery. Ordained in 2006 he served Beaverlodge-Wembley-Hythe Pastoral Charge in  northern Alberta. As of September 2010 he is a minister at Woodcliff United Church.

With much fondness and gratitude for what the Roman-Catholic Church has given and taught him, he likes to say of that moment as “I continued the same journey in the same direction, I just changed the busses”. He will share with us stories of that faith journey that took over 3,000,000 km and isn’t over yet.

Bring your curiosity.  Bring an instrument.  Bring two friends.

Come on out for good coffee, good company, good stories and good songs.
