Emergency Relief in Haiti
In response to the crisis in Haiti brought on by the earthquake on
Tuesday, the United Church of Canada immediately committed $20,000 for
Haitian relief and reconstruction from our Emergency Response Fund
(ERF). This fund is replenished annually through the M&S fund and
through donations from individual members. There are no staffing or
administrative costs for this fund as those are covered by the M&S
fund.
This donation is sent to Haiti through our membership in ACT (Action by
Churches Together) - a network of churches and Christian aid agencies
that enables us to respond quickly to emergencies around the globe.
Members of ACT are already in place in Haiti, assisting those affected
by the earthquake. Our partners in the region are The Methodist Church
of Haiti and The Karl Levesque Cultural Institute.
Now we are invited to contribute to the United Church's Haiti Appeal by
making a donation payable to Scarboro United specifically marked Haiti
Appeal. you will receive a tax receipt - this is separate from the
M&S fund receipt. These donations will be forwarded on to the
United Church very quickly.
"Gracious God, extend your loving kindness, mercy and compassion upon
all, we pray. Thank you for aid workers, first responders, churches,
communities, and families who are extending a loving, helping hand to
one another. Grant us your grace that we may respond in love, with kind
and determined action, and with fervent prayer: mourning with those who
have loss, labouring with those who seek to rebuild, and aiding those
who seek to prepare for the next storm. Through Jesus Christ we pray.
Amen". (Rev. Neal Presa, Presbyterian Church USA).
